This is a free service, primarily intended for use in connection with the RISC OS operating system. It is provided on a voluntary basis and is not run to commercial standards of security or reliability. For that reason it should not be used for purposes where a breach of security or a loss of availability could cause signifciant harm (financial or otherwise).

Use of this service is subject to the following Terms of Use. You are not required to agree to them, but you are not authorised to use the service unless you do.

For the purpose of this agreement:

  • “Terms of Use” shall mean this agreement;
  • this “Service” shall mean the RISC OS Authentication Service;
  • “You” shall mean any user of this Service; and
  • “We” shall mean those who are responsible for providing this Service.

We shall not intentionally or recklessly:

  • attest to Your identity, or
  • disclose personal information You have supplied

except as directed by You or required by law.

3We shall take such steps as We consider reasonable and appropriate to ensure the availability of this Service and to prevent the unauthorised use of Your identity or disclosure of Your personal information; however, in determining what is reasonable, We may take into account the non-commercial nature of this Service and the limited purposes for which it is intended.
4In order to use this Service You will either supply or be supplied with a token (such as a password) which is intended to be known only by You. While it is in Your possession it shall be Your responsibility to protect that token from disclosure to third parties (with the exception of third parties to whom such disclosure has been expressly approved by Us). We may rely upon possession of the token as definitive proof of Your identity.
5We may collect such information about Your use of this Service as We consider reasonable and necessary for the efficient and effective running of this Service. This may include, but is not limited to, information required to detect or prevent technical faults and malicious activity. Any such information shall be considered to be personal information (and therefore subject to the disclosure restrictions described elsewhere in these Terms of Use).
6We shall endeavour to provide at least three months notice to You in the event that this Service is to permanently cease operating.
7It shall be Your responsibility to decide whether this Service is fit for the purpose for which You intend to use it. (If You require any additional information to make this assessment then please ask.)
8Under no circumstances shall We be liable to You for damages of any kind arising out of the use or inability to use this Service, even if We have been advised if the possibility of such damages.
9If (against the abundant advice to the contrary presented on this web site) You choose to use this Service outside the limited purposes for which it was designed and intended then You hereby accept full responsibility for the consequences.
10We may amend these Terms of Use at any time, subject to advising You by e-mail of any such amendment at least 30 days before it is to take effect. If You continue to use this Service after the effective date of such an amendment then You shall be deemed to have accepted that amendment.
11You may not use this Service to publish material which is distasteful, offensive or deceptive, and We reserve the right to any remove material which We reasonably consider to fall within this prohibition. This shall include your choice of username, but shall not extend to an act merely because it was performed while authenticated using this Service.
12The registration of multiple accounts by a single user is discouraged. You are not permitted to concurrently operate more than two accounts without prior approval.
13You hereby agree not to use this Service for any unlawful purpose.
14If any provision of these Terms of Use is held to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable by any court of competent jurisdiction, such provision shall be severed and the remainder of the provisions shall continue in full force and effect as if these Terms of Use had been agreed with the invalid, illegal or unenforceable provision omitted.
15These Terms of Use shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with English Law. The parties hereby agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
16These Terms of Use shall take effect from 1st July 2007.
